There’s just something so alluring about the word “challenge.” The word simply calls to me and makes me want to step up and conquer. If the words “challenge” and “blog” are combined, the siren call of glory simply cannot be ignored. Knowing this fact, it is not surprising that when I see the announcements for Michelle Schaeffer’s July 2012 Ultimate Blog Challenge, I am drawn into a world of blog post dreaming and scheming.
Please let it be known that I have attempted the Ultimate Blog Challenge before. My last attempt was in October of 2011, and I nearly finished. Of course, this time will be different. July 2012 will be my month of Ultimate Blogging Success! Can you sense my over-inflated optimism? In reality, I am enrolled in maximum credits of university summer school and already committed to my Goodreads 2012 Book Challenge. The defining reason I decided to join in the blogging madness now is…I have a plan.
It is no surprise that if you peruse the Ultimate Blog Challenge posts on Facebook you will come to find little blog post gems that inspire you to go on with bigger and better things. While exploring recently I found the idea of the 30 Day Letter Challenge. A little bit of research showed that it is a popular blogging challenge, although I could not find the original creator. (Please let me know if you have information for them so I may give credit where it is due). The idea is to follow a list detailing who is to “receive” your letter each day and post that letter in your blog. For example, on Day One you are instructed to craft your letter to Your Best Friend.
This idea struck me as an amazing way to both explore the relationships with those we write our letters to, as well as open the well of creativity. Since I love the idea of the Ultimate Blog Challenge, and I love the idea of the 30 Day Letter Challenge, I will combine the two for the month of July. (I hope that’s “legal” in the grand scheme of each challenge!) The idea right now as I embark on this dual-challenge is to follow the Letters as much as possible while inserting a few non-letter-related posts along the way.
I’m looking forward to this coming month and all of the fantastic content that will be produced by my fellow UBC folks. Leave me a comment and let me know if you have any experience with the 30 Day Letter Challenge or if you are participating in the July 2012 Ultimate Blog Challenge.
Until we meet again….happy blogging!
