I’m a big fan of Laurie Notaro’s unflinching sarcasm and biting wit, and I continue to be entertained by her books. In her latest book, The Potty Mouth at the Table she continues to impress with some of her funniest stories yet. No subject is off-limits in this awesome collection of humor writing. Notaro makes everything from Pinterest to food poisoning laugh-out-loud funny. I had tears streaming from my eyes as she described a telephone conversation with her mother and sister about a freak Diet Vanilla Coke trauma. I’m glad that Notaro feels no qualms about writing down her family’s everyday dramas because that stuff is just plan funny. She has a very patient and loving husband who also makes me laugh as he puts up with her rants.
The last story in the book takes a turn for the serious and discusses her friend Kartz’s experiences with a brain tumor. The story has all of the joys of humor wrapped up in the big heart Notaro clearly has. I loved the way she shared this story.
If you’re looking for laughs, get this book in your hands! Each story is short and to the point, and every one of them is hysterical. I dare you to contain your laughter!
