What I’m Writing:
I’m still plugging away at my current WIP and made some wonderful progress this past week. I’m a part of a writing program that teaches weekly lessons on things like dialogue, setting, and plot, and I spent this week going back in my manuscript and applying things I’ve been learning to my own work. I spent an entire day on one small scene of dialogue that had me nearly tearing my hair out, but I think it’s changed for the better and loved examining my work in such a new way. I’m inspired to make my writing better because of this class!
What I’m Reading:
This week I read two writing books on craft to get me inspired. (Stay tuned for reviews!) After struggling with inspiration, I found that reading about writing helped to stoke my creativity a bit. Along with those, I’m currently reading Jenny Han’s THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY.
What I’m Listening To:
I went back to basics in terms of listening while writing this week and stuck with some old favorites. I absolutely love Mozart flute concertos, so I had them on repeat while writing this week. Nothing like a little classical music to open my mind!
What’s Inspiring Me:
This week I’m inspired by the Olympics! Granted, I’ll never know the drive to be the best in a sporting event, but seeing the stories of these amazing athletes and their pure determination to be the best they can be has inspired me. If they can dedicate that much time and energy to their sport, surely I can dedicate that same type of time and energy to becoming a better writer!
What’s Next:
This next week I will be attending the Desert Nights, Rising Stars Writing Conference, so my actual writing time will be diminished. I’m looking forward to attending all of the sessions and meeting like-minded writers though and can’t wait to report back here with the things I’ve learned. This week is all about learning and networking!
