Hopeless romantic Isla has had a crush on introspective cartoonist Josh since their first year at the School of America in Paris. And after a chance encounter in Manhattan over the summer, romance might be closer than Isla imagined. But as they begin their senior year back in France, Isla and Josh are forced to confront the challenges every young couple must face, including family drama, uncertainty about their college futures, and the very real possibility of being apart.
Featuring cameos from fan-favorites Anna, Étienne, Lola, and Cricket, this sweet and sexy story of true love—set against the stunning backdrops of New York City, Paris, and Barcelona—is a swoonworthy conclusion to Stephanie Perkins’s beloved series.
Miss Riki’s Review:
Cute. Cute. Cute. Romantic. Swoon-worthy.
Can I just end my review there? Seriously, after reading ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS and LOLA AND THE BOY NEXT DOOR, I was pretty sure that Stephanie Perkins could do no wrong, and this third book proves it.
I was so excited that we got to see more of Josh (first introduced in ANNA) and loved finding out more of his backstory. He’s probably the most complex of all of Perkin’s love interests and I loved that he wasn’t the perfect, model student. He has definite flaws and struggles and those just made me fall for him even more.
Isla is a hopeless romantic and super sweet. I rooted fro her from the very start and wanted so badly for her crush to come to fruition as she tiptoed around Josh. Seeing the two of them fall in love was such a joy, and the conflict that comes between them is heartbreaking. With every misunderstanding, I was just screaming No! No! No! You’re perfect together! Why can’t you see it?!?! (I think it’s a good sign when I’m yelling at characters in books).
The love story in this book was a little more intense than in the first two books, but it definitely works. Isla is a romantic through and through and the depth of her love for Josh is endearing.
I loved the cameos from favorite characters from the first two books, including Anna, St. Clair, Lola, and Cricket. The way we got glimpses of their lives and even a much-anticipated conclusion to a beloved storyline was wonderful.
After reading three books by Stephanie Perkins, I’m definitely hooked. Whatever she comes out with next will go on my pre-order, must-buy list immediately.
