Maggie Silver has always lived an unusual life. She’s traveled the world cracking safes for the world’s premier spy organization with her incredibly supportive parents and loves her extraordinary lifestyle. It never occurred to her that she might be missing out on high school with its bad lunches and ridiculous cliques. All that changes when Maggie gets her first solo assignment upon returning to New York City where she is set to attend a private academy as a student herself. Suddenly she is thrust into an academic life where she must navigate the hallways and try to make friends. Maggie’s assignment gets complicated when she must befriend the adorable son of a potential national security threat and she develops feelings that go beyond her mission.
This book is so much fun! Also Known As sets itself apart from other novels featuring teenage spies with a truly unique and fabulous voice and witty dialogue that never quits. Every page is full of action and the pacing never slows. The main character, Maggie is original and easy to like, with her sassy wit and earnest need to do the right thing. I loved seeing her grow as develop as she gets into more and more hot water, eventually finding her own agency as she solves a major problem all on her own. (Well, with a little help from her awesome friend Roux and her love interest Jesse Oliver). This book had just the right amount of spying and espionage mixed in with seeing Maggie in her high school element, making friends and falling in love.
With a wonderful, unique voice and nonstop witty dialogue, you’ll be rooting for Maggie to make friends and thwart the bad guys, all while falling in love.
