Miss Riki’s Review:
This book is a lot of fun. Jenny Greenley is my favorite sort of protagonist in young adult literature. She’s smart as can be and sympathetic to her peers, making her the perfect sort of friend. And in this fast-paced novel she is exactly that- the perfect friend. She’s well liked by her classmates and seems to always know the right thing to say to smooth over the latest drama, so when she begins shaking things up at the prompting of Luke- things get really fun.
I liked that this book is sort of about a teen star coming to a small town, but that it is more about the friendships and lives of the kids before he comes to town. Luke’s arrival shakes things up, but the book stays firmly in normal territory as it explores the different ways that Jenny and her friend’s lives were ready to be shaken up. It has a wonderful feel of self-discovery as Jenny find a way to make more of her life as a well-liked advice columnist.
This book is fast-paced and fun, with wonderfully witty dialogue and unique characters that are easy to root for. It is light and fluffy in all the ways a Hollywood-themed YA should be, yet also manages to make you think a little bit about your place in the world and what you are doing for the greater good.
