I’m back with an update after a wonderful week full of great progress and awesome reads. Here goes!
What I’m Writing:
This past week I tried something new in terms of scheduling my writing time, and it really worked out! So, I’m basically in the middle of two projects right now, and both need attention so that I don’t lose momentum, but I was having a difficult time triaging what needed work and when. I am still in the middle of massive revisions on my YA contemporary THAT YEAR, and I am also drafting a new novel, an adult romance titled BORDERLINE.
In order to keep moving forward on both, I divvied up the workload and worked on each one on alternating days, with one day of rest in the week, and it worked like a charm! Not only did it allow me to get good progress in on both projects- it also gave me a sort of built in time away from each one that benefitted my process. So- that’s the plan again this week. Six days of work, alternating days working on each project, then a day of rest.
What I’m Reading:
I’m super excited to be participating in some blog tours and hosting some amazing author interviews this month, so this week’s reading is all about those books. I’ll be reading Brenda Drake’s TOUCHING FATE, as well as Anna-Marie McLemore’s THE WEIGHT OF FEATHERS. I can’t wait to dive into these two YA books!
What I’m Listening To:
I am literally obsessed with Hozier’s “Take Me to Church” right now. It’s like the only thing I have playing while I’m working on my revisions.
As for drafting the new project, my mom has been helping me build the ultimate BORDERLINE playlist, so I’ve been adding songs and listening to that playlist for drafting the new project. So far it’s a cool mix of country and latin music perfect for summoning a vacation in Mexico!
What’s Inspiring Me:
This past week featured a Twitter contest called #PitMAd, where authors everywhere set to Twitter to pitch their novels in 140 characters or less in hopes of attracting an agent for their work. (It’s no easy feat to distill a full-length novel into such a short description!) This week I am inspired by all of the creative souls who put themselves out there for this contest. It’s incredibly difficult to put your hopes on the line and try to pitch your work, and I admire everyone who tried. After all, if they can do it- so can I!
Forward progress is the name of the game this week. I’ve got my revision plan set and my drafting schedule outlined, so all there is to do now is stick to it!
