About the Book:
Emi has already started making her mark on the highly competitive Hollywoood scene as a young set designer, but her real-life relationships are all over the place. She has been an again-off again too many times to count with her first love, the beautiful and successful Morgan, and is dangerously close to losing respect from her best friend Charlotte. But then Emi finds a mysterious letter from a Hollywood film legend at an estate sale and the letter leads Emi straight to Ava. Ava is everything Emi needs to break out of her relationship rut. She’s beautiful and enigmatic and Emi is smitten with her. But more than that, Ava is about to show Emi a thing or two about acceptance and true love.
Miss Riki’s Review:
I loved this book so, so much! The prose is beautifully written, and the characters are three-dimensional and relatable, and I just loved the behind the scenes Hollywood aspect of it. As if wonderful characters and a delightful LGBTQ romance weren’t enough reason for me to love this book, there’s also an intriguing mystery that pulls the whole beautiful thing together.
The romance in this book is absolutely perfect. As a reader, I wanted so badly to see Emi grow from the darker place that she starts at in this book, and LaCour takes her on a journey of self-discovery that ends in love. I was totally on board for her transformation for every single page. It was so refreshing to see two female leads unabashedly comfortable with their sexuality and watch them fall for one another little by precious little. It’s a slow burn type of romance that blooms from a place of friendship and admiration, and by the time Emi and Ava find the right way to express how they feel about one another, I was literally shouting, “finally!” I spent the whole last half of the book just dying for the two girls to kiss already. (And they finally do, and it’s perfect and wonderful and everything I could have hoped for!)
This book is an absolutely beautiful love story wrapped up in an intriguing mystery, and is of course a love letter to old school Hollywood and classic filmmaking. Readers will love to root for Emi on her journey of self-discovery and will enjoy the delightful cast of secondary characters introduced in the book.
I’m a huge fan of Nina LaCour’s after reading both THE DISECNCHANTMENTS and HOLD STILL, and EVERYTHING LEADS TO YOU absolutely holds up to her high standard of storytelling. This book is a must-read.
