THE LAST KING

Beckett and Samara’s story is now available!

Ultra wealthy and super powerful, the King family is like royalty in Texas. But who will keep the throne? New York Times bestselling author Katee Robert introduces a red-hot new series.

Keep reading to get a sneak peek excerpt and enter the giveaway for one of ten (10) print copies of THE LAST KING!

Synopsis:

THE MAN SHE HATES TO LOVE

Beckett King just inherited his father’s fortune, his company-and all his enemies. If he’s going to stay on top, he needs someone he can trust beside him. And though they’ve been rivals for years, there’s no one he trusts more than Samara Mallick.

The rebel. That’s how Samara has always thought of Beckett. And he’s absolutely living up to his unpredictable ways when he strides into her office and asks for help. She can’t help wondering if it’s a legit request or just a ploy to get her into bed. Not that she’d mind either one. After all, she likes to live on the edge too.

But soon the threats to the King empire are mounting, and the two find family secrets darker than they ever imagined and dangerous enough to get them both killed.

Praise for The Last King:

“Top Pick! Beckett and Samara are a fantastic, modern couple. They clash in the boardroom and the bedroom, are total equals, and their bring-it-on spirit makes every interaction lively and exciting — whether clothes are on or off. … The heart of this romance is the development of trust between Beckett and Samara, and Robert expertly unfolds it, revealing the emotional connection on both sides under the flash and fire of their irresistible chemistry. 4 1/2 stars.”—RT Book Reviews

Heaven was Samara in a little green dress.

Beckett watched her walk across the lobby, her mile-long legs eating up the distance with ease. That glimpse of wildness she’d given him last night was in full effect today, her hair a mass of black waves that seemed to curl and snap around her shoulders with each step. Her dress fitted her like a second skin, sloping down over her breasts, her stomach, to her hips and thighs.

But it was her dark eyes that drew and held him. Anger and desire and something like guilt lingered there, and she held his gaze as she stopped in front of him. “Do I meet your expectation?”

“You’re beautiful.”

She arched a single eyebrow. “I know.”

That surprised a laugh out of him. Beckett turned to the elevator bank and offered his elbow. The gentlemanly move was over-the-top for their current circumstances, but he couldn’t be this close to her without touching her. Kissing her now, here, was a terrible damn idea, so he’d settle for the small touch. “No false modesty. I like that.”

“I think we’ve established that I don’t operate based on what you like.” Despite her words, amusement pulled at the edges of her lips, and she set her hand carefully on his forearm. “Every time I think I have your number down, you surprise me. Most guys get pissy pants if a woman doesn’t fall at their feet when they call her beautiful.”

“I’m not most guys.” He waited for the elevator door to open and led her onto it. “You can’t fit me into a box and write me off, Samara.”

“I’m beginning to see that.” She shook her head, her hair brushing against his shoulder. “My life would be a whole lot easier if I could.”

He couldn’t argue that, so he didn’t bother. Beckett took them up to the executive level. He noted the way she studied everything, obviously filing away every bit of information she could lay her eyes on. “What does Lydia pay you these days?”

She dropped her arm and stepped back. “Oh no. I don’t think so.” She pointed at him. “We went over this last night. I’m not for sale.”

“It’s an innocent question.”

“It is most definitely not an innocent question.” She looked like she wanted to take off her shoe and throw it at his head. “I don’t care what issue you and your aunt have. I’m not part of it. You don’t get to use me as leverage. I’m not a pawn for either of you to sacrifice in this pissing match you have going on.”

Shame tried to take hold, but he wouldn’t let it. Samara knew the game, no matter how much it apparently offended her. “I’m the bad guy for trying to offer you a job, but I’m sure you agreed to show up here solely out of the goodness of your heart.” He pretended to think about it. “Wait, no you didn’t—which you already admitted. You’re here because Lydia wants to do whatever it takes to sink Morningstar. Full stop.” He motioned at the offices behind him. “Wake up, Samara. I’m only playing the game she made the rules for.”

She took in the empty COO office on the other side of the glass wall. “She poached your employees.”

“Convenient timing, don’t you think?”

“You’re not still harping on that paranoid talk about Lydia meeting Nathaniel.” Samara hesitated and then moved to stand in front of him. She pressed her lips together and then very gently said, “Do you think maybe it’s a good idea for you to talk to someone?”

Beckett jerked back. “What?”

There was nothing but sympathy in her dark eyes. “I’m serious, Beckett. I’ve known you a long time, at least by reputation, and this delusion you have going isn’t like you. Is it possible that Nathaniel’s death is hitting you harder than you realize? That you’re fixating on Lydia instead of your own grief because it’s easier to deal with an enemy than face the fact you can never make things right with your father?”

Every word flayed him, cutting to the quick. Beckett gritted his teeth against the need to tell Samara that she was the one who wasn’t thinking clearly. To yell. To expel some of the ugliness that had been brewing in him for a very, very long time. “I didn’t call you here to offer you a job, and I sure as hell don’t need a shrink.”

She stood her ground as he advanced. Her heels put them at the same height and she still managed to look down her nose at him. “Then why did you call me here?”

Because I can’t spend another moment alone without going out of my mind.

He didn’t say it. To admit how long it had been since he’d felt a connection with another person was to hand Samara—Lydia—a loaded gun and invite her to point it directly at him. He didn’t answer her verbally at all. Beckett cupped her waist and slowly pulled her against him, giving her plenty of time to register his intentions.

“Beckett.” Despair colored her tone and she gave a desperate laugh. “What are we doing?”

“I don’t know.” Using a hand on the small of her back, he pressed her firmly against him. “I don’t want to stop.”

Samara hesitated, but finally placed her hands gingerly against his chest. He waited, letting her decide. Yes or no. Push or pull. Stay or go. She hitched a breath. “I don’t want to stop, either.”

CHASING CHRISTMAS EVE Review & Blog Tour

September 29, 2017

From New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis comes the next sexy, standalone novel in the Heartbreaker Bay series… Don’t miss the amazing excerpt and giveaway below, and order your copy today!

About CHASING CHRISTMAS EVE:

Meet cute…

Run for the hills—temporarily. That’s Colbie Albright’s plan when she flees New York for San Francisco. Wrangling her crazy family by day and writing a bestselling YA fantasy series by night has taken its toll. In short, Colbie’s so over it that she’s under it. She’s also under the waters of a historic San Francisco fountain within an hour of arrival. Fortunately, the guy who fishes Colbie out has her looking forward to Christmas among strangers. But she’s pretty sure Spencer Baldwin won’t be a stranger for long.

Make merry…

Spence’s commitment to hiding from the Ghosts of Relationships Past means he doesn’t have to worry about the powerful—okay, crazy hot—chemistry he’s got with Colbie. Just because she can laugh at anything, especially herself… just because she’s gorgeous and a great listener…just because she “gets” Spencer immediately doesn’t mean he won’t be able to let Colbie go. Does it?

…and hope for a miracle.

Now the clock’s ticking for Colbie and Spence: Two weeks to cut loose. Two weeks to fall hard. Two weeks to figure out how to make this Christmas last a lifetime.

Miss Riki’s Review:

Step off, ladies, because Spence is ALL MINE! Seriously, this hero is sweet, caring, adorable, kind, and HOT! He’s literally the perfect hero. And of course Jill Shalvis has written his perfect match in Colbie, who is just as kind and exactly what Spence needs in his life. I LOVE the meet cute in this book and was rooting for them from the start. I just love how the two of them found reprieve from life’s pressure and drama in each other and fell for them immediately. This book had me smiling chapter after chapter, and it has such a lovely holiday spirit that makes me yearn for cooler temperatures and sneaking kisses under the mistletoe. Really, you know Jill Shalvis is going to deliver a story you’ll just adore every time, and this book really hit it out of the park. There’s such joy on every page, and these are charters you’ll want to revisit time and again. Another five star read from Jill Shalvis!

Excerpt from CHASING CHRISTMAS EVE:

Spence, still crouched low and easily balanced on the balls of his feet, dropped to his knees and pulled her up to hers. Brushing the hair from her forehead, he eyed the spot where they’d connected. “You okay?”

She started to say yes but his gaze slid to her mouth and she lost her train of thought, instead licking her suddenly dry lips.

Spence, watching the movement avidly, let out a rough breath. “Colbie,” he said quietly, in a very serious, very low octave that sounded like pure sex.

She stood up. “Y-yes?”

Also standing, he slid his hands up her arms, giving her a very slow tug, almost as if expecting resistance.

There was no resistance. Hell, she nearly took a flying leap at him.

He laughed softly, sending a bolt of heat through her. Her knees wobbled and his arm wrapped around her waist, steadying her. Their gazes locked and they both froze in place, she from a sudden rush of emotions, Spence probably from watching them play out across her face. She once again started to say something—still had no idea what—but was silenced by his hot mouth covering hers.

Yes was her only coherent thought and she pressed up against him as he angled his head, taking the kiss even deeper.

THE REAL THING Review & Blog Tour

September 10, 2017

Today we have the blog tour for THE REAL THING by Melissa Foster! I’m excited to share my own review, and there’s a fun giveaway, so be sure to enter!! Check it all out!

About The Real Thing:

Fall in love on the shores of Sugar Lake in the small town of Sweetwater with Willow Dalton and Zane Walker.

This sassy, spirited baker is fine with heat—but is her fake fiancé too hot to handle?

Bakery owner Willow Dalton’s friendship with Zane Walker has always been a bit complicated. Now a scrumptiously hot A-list actor, Zane’s always had a reputation as a player. He’s arrogant, and he’s definitely not boyfriend material. Sure, he did Willow a favor by agreeing to take her virginity before college, but is that reason enough for her to go along with a fake engagement a decade later—even if it comes with a real diamond ring?

Zane should have known better. Nothing involving Willow has ever been easy. Still, he knows her better than anyone, and becoming America’s hottest new leading man means cleaning up his reputation. An “engagement” to curvy, sass-mouthed Willow is the perfect PR move…provided no one gets hurt.

Now Zane and Willow’s little white lie has turned into an irresistible recipe for sweet temptation. And soon no one will be able to tell the difference between their fake engagement and the real thing—including them.

This book is being published by Montlake (an Amazon imprint) and won’t be available on other ebook retailers, but you can download a FREE ereader app to read it HERE (or order the paperback)

Miss Riki’s Review:

The thing I love the most about Melissa Foster’s romances are that you’re not only guaranteed well developed and relatable heroines who have agency, but also a much more emotional character arc than you’re expecting. I LOVED Willow as out heroine and I fell hook, line, and sinker for the fake relationship trope presented in this book. I mean, who wouldn’t fall for the one that got away when he’s probably off limits and clearly a playboy, but that heart of gold just shines on through?! These two main characters had chemistry that jumps off the page, and they are just so damn cute together.

If you’re looking for a romance with as much smarts as it has heart, look no further. Melissa foster has done it again with an amazing story. She has cemented her place on my must buy author list!

PRIMAL INSTINCT Book Review & Author Interview

May 26, 2016

primal-instinct

Hello everyone! I’m so excited to be sharing with you today my review of an amazing new release from Tara Wyatt! and to make things even more exciting, Tara has stopped by today with a little Q&A! Read on for all of the details about the book, my review, and then get to know Tara!

***

About PRIMAL INSTINCT:

The first time he lays eyes on Taylor Ross in a bar, Colt Priestley does something few men would dare to do. He approaches the world-famous singer, shamelessly flirts with her, and gives her a night in his bed that neither of them will soon forget.

When Taylor’s record label hires a bodyguard to keep tabs on the out-of-control rocker, she’s less than thrilled to find it’s her off-the-charts one-night stand who shows up for the job. She’s terrified of letting herself fall for the damaged ex-Army Ranger, and she’s determined to push him away. Yet every moment they’re together simmers with tension. As the danger from an obsessed stalker mounts, Taylor and Colt are tempted to cross that line again-baring their hearts and souls as well as their bodies-and there’s no telling how hot this song will get.

Miss Riki’s Review:

Ladies and gentlemen, I have found a new favorite author! Seriously, when I first read the blurb for PRIMAL INSTINCT, I was pretty excited. Bodyguard romances are sort of my jam, and I was eager to find one to sweep me away. Well, let me tell you- this book did all of that and more! I loved every high-energy page!

I loved Taylor Ross as the heroine. She’s spunky and sassy and is kind of a reformed bad girl, which totally worked in her favor. I loved seeing her inner struggle as she tries to make sense of her past and reconcile her actions with the myriad of stresses influencing her decisions. She’s every bit the star, but she comes form some pretty rough roots, and isn’t quite ready to place all of her heart in the trust of another man.

However, all bets are off when she has a one night stand with Colt Priestley.

Oh, Colt. How I adore thee! you guys, Colt is a MAN. Like, a dirty talking, completely in control alpha man. From the very opening scenes we meet him in, you know that this guy has it going on. But, he’s also damaged by a very rough past. When he finally finds a reprieve form the nightmares that plague him in the arms of Taylor, he knows she’s the only woman for him.

But it’s not easy. There’s a seriously creepy stalker situation going on (like- REALLY CREEPY. OMG- I’m still thinking about Ronnie. He’s seriously nightmare-inducing.), and Taylor’s father is a dangerous man set on undoing her. Colt has a checkered past and is plagued by nightmares. all signs point to trouble for this dynamic couple, and every scene is a powerhouse of action and momentum barreling to a crazy exciting finish.

I seriously stayed up WELL PAST MY BEDTIME so that I could devour this book in one sitting. It’s so good. And after I finished, I quickly placed my order for her first book, NECESSARY RISK. Like I said, we are in new favorite author territory here. Loved it!

Q&A with Tara Wyatt:

Describe yourself in five words.

Hard working, creative yet organized, daydreamer (That’s 6. It’s the creative in me. Sorry.)

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

While I’m pretty girly (I love makeup, clothes, wine, yoga, and, you know, I write romance) I’m also a big sports fan! I especially love MMA (mixed martial arts) and baseball.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received in your writing career?

“Stay in your lane.” While it’s tempting to compare yourself to others, no good will come of it. You’ll only stress yourself out and make yourself miserable. Everyone has their own path, so put your head down and focus on what you’re writing.

What do you listen to while you write? Or do you prefer silence?

I almost always listen to music when I write, and I actually make soundtracks for each of my projects. If you’d like to check out the Primal Instinct soundtrack, you can see a track listing here: http://bit.ly/1Nyqyob

What is the most embarrassing thing you’ve looked up in the name of research – or what do you think the government has maybe flagged you for?

Ha! Writing romantic suspense definitely gives you an interesting search history. I joke with my husband and my girlfriends that if anything ever happens to me, PLEASE DELETE MY SEARCH HISTORY! I’ve researched different types of guns and knives, counter surveillance techniques, how a pipe bomb works, prison time for various crimes, famous biker gangs, how to break into a house,  and different types of gunshot wounds, just to give you a few examples. Combine it with the sexy stuff (um…like my Tumblr feed), it’s a pretty odd looking search history.

My plan, if anyone shows up at my door, is to just give them a copy of the book and tell them that it’ll explain everything. That’ll work, right?

What was your favorite part of writing PRIMAL INSTINCT?

I love classic rock, and it plays a role in the book (and on the soundtrack), so it was fun having scenes come to life inspired by some of my favorite songs. For example, the opening scene, where Taylor and Colt meet in the bar, was partly inspired by “Heartache Tonight” by the Eagles.

And, as a whole, I just love Taylor and Colt, both separately and as a couple. They have such a fun, sexy dynamic, and were a lot of fun to write.

Which actor/actress would you like to see your main characters from PRIMAL INSTINCT?

I cast all of my books, but I never found a perfect match for Taylor. She’s kind of a hybrid. She looks a bit like Lindsey Ellingson (the model), but with the voice and personality of Lzzy Hale (lead singer of Halestorm). As for Colt, that one’s easy. Jensen Ackles. J

What is an unknown fact or fun trivia about PRIMAL INSTINCT?

The original title was Rock Me, but that didn’t really fit with Necessary Risk, so we found something better.

What inspired you to write a bodyguard romance?

I think the idea of falling for your protector/the person you’re protecting is so sexy. The attraction is heightened by the danger around them, and what woman wouldn’t want a ripped, hot, alpha guy keeping her safe? Bodyguards are HOT! The protectiveness, the strength, the ability to think quickly in dangerous situations…so, so hot.

What are you working on now?

I’m just finishing up the third book in the Bodyguard series, Chain Reaction, which will be available early next year. I also have three novellas coming out later this year. Nailed will be in the Dirty Work anthology, and comes out in August, and I have two holiday novellas featuring twin brother heroes (you’re welcome) called Like Fresh Fallen Snow, and When Snowflakes Fall, coming out in October. For more info on those, you can visit my webpage. 🙂

Miss Riki’s Review:

This book is a really sweet love story featuring a swoon-worthy prince, a girl who has always wanted to live her recently troubled life as a princess, and the whirlwind romance they embark on.

First of all, I loved the friendship aspect to this novel with Emmaline and her girlfriends taking a European vacation. The friends were wonderful secondary characters in this fun romance and I enjoyed seeing their reactions to what Em is going through. Lauren is such a character and kind of stole the scene when she showed up on the page!

Kristos is a wonderful leading man, and I thought the sweet meet-cute when he runs into Em on the beach was just so dang adorable. I love that he is able to come to her rescue right away and thought that it set the tone for the romance that runs hot and fast. There is a bit of the insta-love aspect to this novel, but it feels earned after all the drama that Em and Kristos go through. Somehow being thrust into the spotlight makes people realize what’s important much quicker, and I fell for the quick romance with no problem.

This book truly is a modern fairy tale, with all of the wonderful aspects of palace life explored. Romance fans will love stepping into the kingdom of Garronia and will fall for Em and Kristos, just like I did. This book is fast-paced and an easy read sure to thrill readers.

Interview with Jennifer Chance:

Describe yourself in five words.

Grateful, Growing, Happy Professional Author

(okay, clearly you caught me on a good day!)

What is the best piece of advice have you ever received in your writing career?

Keep writing. No matter what, start working on that next book, even if it’s just a few words at a time. It’s the only part of this career you can control. J

What is the strangest/most interesting thing you’ve looked up in the name of book research?

Ha! Great question. I’d say the strangest research I’ve done is for my Elizabethan spy books (young adult), where I learned about the superstitions of Elizabethan-era people. In a world where witchcraft was a crime punishable by death, it was still a time of great mysticism and extreme beliefs.

What was your favorite part of writing COURTED?

Honestly, COURTED is one of those books that makes me tear up every time I read certain sections. I think I just really like the idea of a young woman who gives everything to those around her… then one day the world gives something back to her. It makes me very happy.

DREAM CAST: Which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character(s) from COURTED?

Ahhhhhh…. You’d think I would have thought of this question before now! I think for Emmaline, maybe a young Keira Knightly (minus the British accent), and for Kristos, anyone who comes up under “hot Greek model” is a good start. It’s a little more difficult because I don’t know a lot of Greek actors! And Googling this is a surefire way to lose a half an hour of your life you’ll never get back. 😉 Not that I know this from experience or anything.

What is an unknown fact or fun trivia about COURTED?

Unknown fact: I actually did way more research than I think is reasonable to create a fictional kingdom between Greece and Turkey. Garronia is about the size of Rhode Island, so it is tiny… but it is fierce.

E-Books or Traditional Paper Books?

It depends on where I am! I love paper books, but if I’m traveling, or lying in bed late at night unable to sleep, or waiting in line somewhere—then e-books are a godsend! I do tend to prefer to have research books in paper, though, I’m not sure why… I think it’s just easier to bookmark and keep notes when there are actual pages.

What’s Next: What are you working on now?

Up next for Jennifer Chance is CAPTURED, book 2 in the Gowns & Crowns series! This book, which comes out in January, features Lauren the socialite, and the bodyguard who makes her absolutely crazy. You meet both Lauren and Dimitri in COURTED, and I think their story will be a blast to write.

January 2014 Reading Challenge Update

January 30, 2014

booklove

Ah, yes…the first month of the New Year has come and gone. I started out January with a bang, reading five books in the first two weeks while on my beachside vacation. It was a glorious daily ritual to wrap up in a blanket by the water and read to my heart’s content. But alas, I had to actually come home from vacation and my reading schedule got a bit interrupted. Have no fear, though. I’m back on track to keep up with my goal and am looking forward to sharing some really awesome books with you!

For those of you who missed my initial post on this topic, I have decided to embark on a most enjoyable challenge to read 100 books in 2014. I have chosen to participate in the Goodreads 2014 Reading Challenge in which I select my own goal. Each month I will give you an update on where I am in the challenge and what books I was lucky enough to indulge in. I’ll also include a purchase link for each book in case you would like to pick a read up for yourself.

In the month of January I have read five books, and according to the graph on Goodreads, I am at 5% of my goal and am one book behind schedule. I’m not too concerned with being off course since I’m about halfway finished with three books now, so I’ll be quick to get right back on track as I complete those.

This past month I have read the following books:

Monster by Walter Dean Myers

The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen

Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz

It was really my month of Young Adult literature, as every book I read was YA!

As usual I am open to your recommendations and look forward to talking books with you!

Happy Reading!
