I am thrilled to be hosting a fabulous author on the blog today with an exclusive Q&A! Sarah Skilton is the author of the amazing new romantic suspense title, CLUB DECEPTION, just released on July 25th, and she has been gracious enough to join us today to answer a few questions about her novel. Sit back and get to know Sarah and CLUB DECEPTION!
About CLUB DECEPTION:
A glamorous romp through the scandals and secrets of LA’s most exclusive fictional magician’s society, CLUB DECEPTION.
Claire Fredericksson is the beating heart of CLUB DECEPTION, LA’s most exclusive magician’s society. She’s the Queen Bee of Magician WAGs (Wives and Girlfriends), and the genius behind her philandering husband Jonathan’s award-winning magic show. Claire’s life is upended by the arrival of two new women to the closed group of wives-Jessica, a young trophy wife with a secret, and Kaimi, an art expert looking for the long-lost Erdnase papers by posing as a girlfriend. When a magician rivalry erupts into murder, the women must uncover the truth and set things right for the men they love. With a cast of endurance experts, Vegas stage stars, and close-up card handlers, this novel weaves a tale of murder, fame, and many, many illusions.
Q&A With Sarah Skilton:
Describe yourself in five words.Idealistic, anxious, loyal, silly, stubborn. What is something people would be surprised to know about you?I’m a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and Hap Ki Do.What is the best piece of advice you have ever received in your writing career?Write the stories you’d most like to read. Don’t attempt to follow trends. What do you listen to while you write? Or do you prefer silence?Usually silence, but if there’s a song that reminds me of a character, I’ll listen to that on repeat while I write the scene he or she is in.What is the most embarrassing thing you’ve looked up in the name of research – or what do you think the government has maybe flagged you for? That’s a killer question! For this book, I had to look up poison, and poisoning methods. Didn’t want my husband (who’s a real-life magician!) walking in with that on Google. What was your favorite part of writing CLUB DECEPTION?So many things. But if I had to narrow it down, I particularly enjoyed introducing these disparate characters with different agendas and opposing POVs who wouldn’t necessarily have been friends at the beginning, and then showing how their relationships have evolved by the end into a tight-knit, bonded group. Also the love scenes and fight scenes were fun 🙂Which actor/actress would you like to see playing your main characters from CLUB DECEPTION?I love playing around with casting, especially since I used to work in that industry as a script reader who wrote descriptions of characters so that actors going on auditions would know what to expect. Here’s my dream list:Claire: Anna Gunn or Katee SackhoffJessica: Jennifer MorrisonKaimi: Grace ParkFelix: Jay HernandezLandon: Michael B. JordanCal: Ioan Gruffudd or Tom HiddlestonJonathan: Stellan Skarsgard
What is an unknown fact or fun trivia about CLUB DECEPTION?
There really is an association of clowns that will auto-subscribe you to their magazine if you buy their performer insurance. Sadly, I think it’s only online these days but at one point it was a magazine that really did come in the mail.
What are you working on now?
I’m writing a romantic comedy and it’s a blast! Is there anything else you’d like to tell us?My hope for this book is that it provides an escape for readers–something that completely takes them out of the stresses of this crazy year. That’s the best possible outcome I can imagine, and I’d be very honored if it makes people laugh, gasp, and turn the pages quickly.
