Now 21, she’s about to realize that dream, but nothing is how she imagined it would be. Her transitional sponsor forgets her, her new lab is in complete chaos, and, as if that weren’t enough, she’s about to discover something so horrific it could potentially destroy all life on the planet.
Daniel Brewer, a noted playboy and genius in his own right, may be exactly what she needs… Or he may make everything worse.

Refreshingly Riki is pleased to be a part of the Official Blog Tour for Cathy Perkins’ novel FOR LOVE OR MONEY. I’ve got some awesome things in store for you today including vital book information, a chance to win a Kindle Paperwhite, and a Top Ten List from Cathy Perkins herself! Here’s a little blurb about the book:
When Holly Price trips over a friend’s dead body while hiking, her life takes a nosedive into a world of intrigue and danger. The verdict is murder—and Holly is the prime suspect.
Of course, the fact that the infinitely sexy—and very pissed off—cop threatening to arrest her is JC Dimitrak, who just happens to be Holly’s jilted ex-fiancé, doesn’t help matters.
To protect her future, her business…and her heart…the intrepid forensic accountant must use all her considerable investigative skills to follow the money through an intricate web of shadow companies, while staying one step ahead of her ex-fiancé. She better solve the case before the real killer decides CPA stands for Certified Pain in the Ass…and the next dead body found beside the river is Holly’s.
And now I’m pleased to present:
Cathy Perkins’ Top Ten Items Every Author With a Book on Deadline/About to Release Needs
1. A forgiving editor who still pushes you to write the best possible book
2. A fabulous art department to come up with fantastic book covers
3. A copy-editor who is NOT interested in rewriting your book
4. A muse that doesn’t take a vacation on page 250 of a 400 page book
5. A life-time supply of M & Ms to keep your energy level high.
6. Since we can’t actually add additional hours to the day, time management strategies
7. Visine to get the red out.
8. A spouse who knows to do the laundry, vacuum the floor, and cook something edible.
9. A sense of humility and a sense of humor. Humility for when you receive glowing praise, just so your head doesn’t grow too large, and humor for when your manuscript baby gets bashed by people who may not understand it.
10. A vision for the story. If you don’t have one for each story (whenever it comes: early on, mid-stream, or when you’re in final edits), it’ll be too easy to get blown around by other people’s opinions, too difficult to assess whether feedback is valuable (and requires change) or superfluous (and can be appreciated and then discarded).
Thank you to Cathy Perkins for allowing me to be a part of her Official Blog Tour!

SUBJECT TO CHANGE Synopsis:
Joey made her dad a deathbed promise that she would become a doctor, and dedicate herself to fighting the very cancer that took his life. There’s just one problem -three years into her pre-med classes, she’s struggling to stay on top of the curve, let alone prove she’s dazzling enough to earn a spot in an Ivy League medical school. In a Hail Mary move, she throws a basic Business 101 class into her semester schedule, banking on a perfect score to boost her GPA.
That is, until she’s paired for a final project with Hawk, the bartending, motorbike-riding, gorgeously bedheaded loser who falls asleep in class and communicates in one-word sentences.
Hawk does whatever he wants, whenever he wants, which sets Joey on edge – in every possible way. As they get to know each other, her urge to scream at him is curbed only by her fantasies of tearing his clothes off. Soon those fantasies become reality, and Joey realizes Hawk makes her feel more fully herself than any of the rich boys her mother and sorority sisters approve of.
But the promise to her father hangs over her head, and the harder Joey tries to succeed in her chosen career, the faster everything falls into a hopeless tailspin of bad grades, broken promises and guilt. It doesn’t help to have Hawk sitting like a devil on her shoulder, insisting she should be free to live however she wants to live – like he does.
The only thing Joey knows is that her neatly organized life is crushing her – and Hawk’s bad attitude might be the only thing that can save her.
Miss Riki’s Review:
I was an instant fan of Alessandra Thomas’ writing after reading her debut novel Picture Perfect, but after reading her latest work, Subject to Change, I am a fan for life. In this wonderful story we meet Joey, a college student hell-bent on surviving pre-med in order to fulfill a promise to her father who passed away from cancer. She is struggling and in desperate need of a change in direction when she lands the absolutely hunky Hawk as a partner in a general business class. Sparks fly and the story takes off from there.
Joey is a wonderfully developed character with dreams and aspirations that any woman can relate to. She’s highly likable and I cheered for her throughout this book. As for Hawk- Oh. My. Goodness. Hot, hot, hot. Every girl loves a bad boy and this dark, handsome, tattooed, motorcycle-riding heartthrob is to die for. It’s impossible not to fall for him, even when the drama starts.
What I loved most about this book is that not only is it a kick-ass love story with some very wonderfully steamy scenes, but it’s a beautiful story about doing what’s true in a girl’s heart. Watching Joey’s transformation from uptight pre-med student to a woman who is confident and believes in herself has in itself reminded me that we have to do what’s right for us, no matter who we might think it disappoints.

THIS LOVE Synopsis:
She wants a summer job and a ride to a wedding.
He wants an assistant and a distraction from the mess his life had become.
They didn’t know they needed each other.
Avery Emili needs two grand. Two grand and a plane ticket–her sister is counting on her to get to Jamaica for her wedding. But the semester is over, and tutoring college freshman and high school students has dried up until the fall.
Atticus Grimes needs help–the messy split with his wife left the twenty-eight year old professor scrambling to keep things together as the semester winds down. Now he’s got a research grant he has to actually do research for and all he wants to do is drown himself in a tall bottle of bourbon.
When Avery sees his ad for an assistant, all she’s thinking is a summer job. But as they spend time together, in the office and out, both of them begin to realize something is there. Something that can’t happen–he’s a professor and she’s a student. And both of them have histories, pasts that won’t let go. Can two broken people pulled apart by expectations find a way to be whole?
No one calls me. Nik used to, but her calls ended months ago. My sister emails me; the only time my phone rings is when Dane is checking on me. But he’s here, so what the hell?
My phone rings again, a different number.
I answer it. “Who is this?”
“I’m calling about the job you listed on Craigslist.”
The girl’s voice is like warm scotch, sliding around me with just the hint of a bite, and even in the midst of my hangover, I can’t help the surge of interest. Then her words make it through the Jaeger induced fog and I groan.
“I’m going to kill Dane.” I mutter.
“Excuse me?” She sounds startled and a little amused, and I flush.
“Look, sweetheart, my roommate is being a dick. I’m sorry.”
“You don’t need a research assistant? Because I’m actually really good at this and I have better qualifications than most people.”
Her voice. God, it’s too early—that has to be part of the reason I’m getting aroused just listening to her talk. “What kind of qualifications?”
“I’m a double major—history, with a specialty in ancient civilizations, and secondary education. I planned on spending the summer researching graduate schools.”
“You should stick with that,” I advise.
“Can’t. And I don’t really want to spend the summer waiting tables—although I will.”
There’s something about her voice that makes me think she’s telling the truth. And it tells me something about her: she’s serious. There’s a work ethic I don’t often see in undergraduates, and it makes me pause.
“I’m sorry,” she says, sounding frazzled—I can hear a male voice in the background—and music and laughter. “You said it’s not really a position. I’ll let you go. Get back to your morning.”
“Wait,” I say, startling both of us into silence. What the hell am I doing? “How about you meet me, and we’ll talk. It can’t hurt, right?”
She hesitates, and then, “Look, I’m not trying to do a job that doesn’t exist. I appreciate it, though.”
“Coffee. Please. Just to talk about it.”
“Ok,” she says, reluctance clear in her tone. “Hill of Beans at five?”
I nod. “I’ll see you then.”
We hang up, and I stare at my phone. What the hell am I doing?

I am so pleased to be Interning for the world’s most amazing author, Rebekah Crane! She is a wildly talented writer, but also is the most enthusiastic and fun person to work with. Today I am excited to share with you a very special message from Rebekah herself! Rebekah is hard at work finishing up her second young adult novel, ASPEN and is getting ready to release the first chapter out to the public! But before we get the goods, we need to help her reach some important social media milestones!
Here’s Rebekah’s message posted on her Tumblr account:
I am DYING to release the first chapter of my next YA novel, ASPEN. YOU can make it happen. Here are 3 ways:
1) 100 people add ASPEN to their TBR list on Goodreads.
2) 1,000 people rate or mark PLAYING NICE to-read on Goodreads.
3) 200 people “like” my author page on Facebook.
Need more incentive? Okay, I’ll pick 3 people to receive signed copies of PLAYING NICE! Just email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and tell me you did one of the three things and I’ll put your name in the pot.
Here’s a teaser for ASPEN:
You know your life’s going to have some strange twists when your hippie mom names you after the tree she gave birth under at a stoner concert. She didn’t know she was pregnant; you end up being named Aspen….
Next thing you know, you’re seeing ghosts.
Before their cars collided, Aspen was the nondescript slacker flying under the radar, Katelyn the sleek-haired popular girl, one half—with gorgeous boyfriend Ben Tyler—of Boulder High’s “It” couple.
After the accident, Aspen is unexpectedly popular, her new lab partner Ben, as in Katelyn’s Ben, is unexpectedly interested in her … and in the biggest twist of all, Katelyn’s ghost appears unexpectedly at every turn. At first, Aspen feels badly.
Then she starts to feel annoyed.
With the help of best friends Kim and Cass, her childlike mother, Ninny, and Ben, Aspen must learn the difference between an accident and fate, while defining the role she wants to take in an indefinite world. It might just be the only way to banish Katelyn from her life forever.
Rebekah Crane’s darkly humorous new young adult novel, ASPEN, is the story of an accident and its aftermath. It’s about a girl struggling to forget the past while being deathly afraid of the future. But most of all, it’s the story of what comes next.
Let’s help Rebekah reach these milestones so we can get the first chapter of ASPEN! Stop by and add her books to your Goodreads lists and “like” her Facebook page. After you’ve done that, don’t forget to email her at email@example.com to be entered into a drawing to win a signed copy of Playing Nice!
If you’d like to read some of Rebekah’s work right now, head over and get a copy of Playing Nice. It’s a great book and you’ll fall in love with the characters.
