Coinciding with the July 2012 Ultimate Blog Challenge, I have decided to also participate in the 30 Day Letter Challenge in which I will write 30 letters to various folks who have touched my life directly as well as inadvertently. The letter for Day Eleven is to be written to a deceased person I wish I could talk to. This letter is written to anyone who has ever taken their own life.
To my lost companions:
We miss you so much. There are vast breaches in our lives where your beautiful faces once shined. There are lost memories that were never properly fashioned drifting in our atmosphere. Most of all there is a deep fissure in our hearts that is impossible to mend.
Some of us were angry with you, while others could feel nothing but the deepest sadness. Every one of us has spent countless hours pondering the same question. Why? It is a riddle that confounds our logic and muddles our reality. It is the worst inquiry there is, because it is one that will never be answered. Sure, you may have thought that your reasons would be so obvious to us, or maybe you even left us a note, but no. We are clueless. We cannot begin to imagine the reasons you would leave us.
Our hearts may be broken, but have faith in our resilience as survivors. We are doing things to honor your memory every moment of every day. Some of you are featured on beautiful quilts made with loving hands. Some of you live on by your story being told in hopes of saving lives. Some of you are remembered through photographs, worn t-shirts, and favorite stuffed animals. Even more of you are simply remembered in fondest memory. As your birthdays pass we honor you with the dreaming of what might have been.
Without you in our physical lives we are blessed to have you watching over us. We pray that you have found harmony and that all pain and suffering has been eradicated from your reality. We pray that one day we will be reunited. Until then we simply miss you.
Fear not for our future. Although losing you made us weak, we have found strength in each other.
I think of you often and wish you all the peace and tranquility that could not be found in this living world. Please know that you will never be forgotten.
Until we meet again,
